Summer School Activities
Summer School Activities at Hurst
We know from 45+ years that activity is an essential part of how our students learn English, have fun and make new friends.
Our Summer School based near Brighton attracts international students from over 20 countries and this multi-lingual environment means that the common language used to communicate is English!
All activities are programmed and supervised by our dedicated team of activity leaders. The team provides activities that satisfy a variety of student needs. The Hurst College campus has an exciting range of facilities that cater for interests in sport, art and performance. Students can choose what they want to do each session. Below are some examples of past sessions.
From 2019 our oldest students, known as ‘Super Seniors’ (aged 15 and over) have a few opportunities a week to enjoy extra liberties later at night, with exclusive entertainment just for their age group. Meanwhile, starting this year, our youngest children, our ‘Junior Learners’ will have more of their own specially organised activities to enjoy safely.
Our activity leaders provide an extensive choice of sports in each session.
Some of the favourite team games, tournaments and non-competitive sports from previous years include:
- Rugby/American Football
- Rock climbing
- Professional football coaching
Our art leaders organise sessions that encourage students to be creative across a variety of themes, topics and skills. Some popular themes and activities from previous years include:
- Jewellery making
- Fashion and design
- Stage design
- Face painting
- Street art
- Mask making
- Costume making
- Clay sculpture
Our performance leaders develop existing skills, and encourage teamwork, inspire personal expression, and build confidence.
Successful sessions from previous years have included:
- Dance choreography
- Talent shows
- Circus skills
- Film/Movie nights
- Leaderships skills
- Team building

Our rich programme of Summer School activities are designed to encourage every student to learn new skills and develop existing skills, grow in confidence and have opportunities to showcase their talents and celebrate their achievements.
All activities are optional for older children, but students are encouraged to take part and we will do our best to support each student in finding activities that they are interested in. All students must register their name and activity choice before each session begins.

"Our daughter had spent 14 days in your summer school. She was so happy there and she liked it very very much. She was even sad to come home, because she missed her new friends and the school…and everything. I want to thank you so much for what you do for all these young people. It’s such a good organisation, you have my great respect and my congratulations."
Odile and Robert – parents of Caroline, student
"My school has sent our students almost every year since 1989. I like MC because they take good care of us. All the students who took part in MC say that they had a wonderful experience there. The staff always care about the students’ safety. I think it is a warm and comfortable atmosphere to experience summer courses."
